Get to know LTS! Administrative & Academic Support Team Managers

LTS Client Services provides first level computing and library support to the Lehigh community. This support is provided in a distributed fashion with cross functional teams of librarians, computing consultants, instructional technologists, and business intelligence analysts assigned to each college and administrative office.

Gale Fritsche: Gale has over 25 years of experience in higher education in the areas of desktop and high performance computing, and instructional technology, holding several computing and IT and management positions since joining the university in 1996. He currently serves as assistant director of computing and distributed support services, where he oversees and directs the college and administrative support teams and numerous LTS projects. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Gale holds a master’s in educational technology from Lehigh and regularly presents at academic conferences on topics including software deployment, security and encryption, and leadership development in higher education.

Meet the managers!

Bill Bettermann: Bill joined Lehigh in 1997 as a senior computing consultant supporting university administration. In 2000, he transitioned to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) team in the same capacity. He was promoted to the team’s manager in 2014, leading a staff of six, including two computing consultants, three subject librarians, and an instructional technologist. The team supports all facets of library services, instructional support, computing, and networking for Lehigh’s largest college. Team members also provide university-wide support in areas such as classroom technology (e.g., the One Button Studio and Visualization Lab) library services (the Institutional Repository and scholarly exhibitions), and subject training (Excel, Qualtrics, Google G-Suite). Bill holds a master’s degree in education from Lehigh, graduating in 2008.

Ilena Key: Ilena is the Assistant Director for the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, which provides pedagogical development opportunities, teaching tools, course development guidance, and other consultation services to the campus community. Ilena joined Lehigh in 2004 as a senior instructional technologist for the College of Education support team and was later promoted to team manager. She also serves as manager of the Instructional Technology Consulting team. Ilena holds a master’s in public health from Indiana University Bloomington and a master’s in instructional technology from Teachers College of Columbia University.

Steve Lewis: Steve has led the LTS Administrative Computing Team (ACT) since 2008. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in information systems management from Carnegie Mellon University. His five-person team provides IT support to nearly 900 university staff members spread across all three campuses. ACT is leading the LTS Endpoint Management project, which allows for more comprehensive and efficient remote installation of PC security patches, software updates, and other system enhancements. Steve is also adjunct faculty at Northampton Community College where he teaches IT security courses. Additionally, he volunteers as a paramedic with Lehigh University Emergency Medical Services.

D. Brad Price: Brad’s Lehigh career spans more than 27 years, beginning at the LU Computer Store. He since transitioned into a senior computing consultant role, and was later promoted to manager of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering client support team. Brad manages a staff of five who support the college’s eight primary departments, many specialized labs and programs, and more than a dozen Centers and Institutes. Beyond the college, the team also provides support and management of several Mac labs in LTS, Wilbur Powerhouse, and elsewhere on campus. Upcoming projects include assisting with virtualization of engineering software applications and coordinating enhanced Mac security and management across campus. A Lehigh alumnus, Brad holds both a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA.

Mark Scott: Mark joined Lehigh in 2015 as a social sciences librarian and was promoted to manager of the College of Business and Economics (CBE) support team and business data librarian the following year. Mark oversees the computing and instructional technology needs of CBE faculty, staff, and students, and acts as liaison between LTS and the college community. He also assists faculty and students with their research needs as their reference librarian, specializing in the acquisition and use of statistical and data resources. Mark holds a master’s degree in library science from the University at Albany, SUNY. The CBE team looks forward to helping support the college through its upcoming expansion.
