Lehigh University names new Chief Technology Officer Ilena Key

The following announcement was shared with the Lehigh community on Monday, August 19, 2019.

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Ilena Key has accepted the position of Chief Technology Officer, effective September 1, 2019.

Ilena is widely recognized as a leader in the area of academic and administrative technologies, with over 20 years of experience across multiple institutions in higher education information technology. Known as much for her technical acumen as for her collaborative leadership style, Ilena has excelled at developing, organizing, and leading countless high-priority technology projects across the university.

Since 2014, Ilena has served as the Assistant Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. In addition, she has provided leadership to the Instructional Technology Team, the College of Education Support Team, Web and Mobile Services, and Online Learning and Distance Education Operations. She serves on the CITL and CTO Leadership Teams, has been a member of the Online Learning  Advisory Committee, and is currently leading a project to implement Ellucian Mobile and Ellucian Experience, components of moving Banner to the Ellucian Private Cloud.

In her new role as Chief Technology Officer, Ilena will be responsible for developing innovative university-wide information systems that support the strategic goals of the university. She will direct the activities of the Client Services Group, Enterprise Systems, and Technology Infrastructure and Operations. As a member of the LTS Leadership Team, she will partner with the CITL Director, University Librarian, Director of LTS Administration, and Chief Information Security Officer to ensure LTS and Lehigh are positioned to promote academic success, excellent service, and efficient administrative functions.

“Over the last 15 years at Lehigh, I have been inspired and energized by our faculty’s commitment to their research and teaching, our staff’s leadership and expertise, and our students’ excitement for what’s possible,” Ilena said. “As I move into this new role, I look forward to working with the broader campus community as a partner in our evolving research and learning infrastructure.”

Ilena holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and Health Education from SUNY Cortland, a Masters of Public Health from Indiana Bloomington, a Master of Arts in Instructional Technology & Media with a concentration in Technology Leadership from Teachers College Columbia University, and is in the final stages of earning her Doctorate in Education, Higher Education Leadership from Northeastern University.

I would like to thank the search committee for their efforts in this important search.
