Bibliophile Alfred Barcan will describe his motivation and methodologies of building a collection of largely Victorian era books, and Seth Moglen, Associate Professor, Department of English, will address the value of this material in the classroom.
4:10 pm in The Scheler Humanities Forum, Linderman Library 200.
The Barcans’ passion for collecting rare, pristine volumes will greatly benefit scholars who will soon be able to access more than 1,000 books that they have donated to Lehigh University. Obtaining them throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia, this gift includes first editions of some of the works of Jules Verne, Mark Twain, Wilkie Collins, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, A.A. Milne, and others. An exhibit of selected materials from the collection is displayed throughout Linderman Library through December 23.
