Do you find yourself rushing to find a spot in the library near a power outlet, only to find they're all taken? Laptop in the shop for repair and need a loaner? LTS has you covered!
In response to increased demand, the Lehigh Libraries recently added more portable power packs to its equipment loaner pool, which also includes 14 Dell Latitude laptops. According to Mark Canney, Manager of Lending Services, the loaner program is open to all students, faculty, and staff and equipment is available for both short and long term use.
Both libraries offer ChargeTech 24000mAh Portable Power Packs with fully-functioning AC outlet to power laptops and charge portable devices. Devices that can charge by USB or by a standard wall plug using 90 watts or less can be powered. There is no borrowing fee. Simply ask for one at either Circulation Desk.
In addition, both Linderman Library and E.W. Fairchild Martindale (EWFM) Library have laptops available for four-hour checkout to students, faculty, and staff. Long-term rental laptops are available at EWFM Library.
Students making use of the borrowing program give it two thumbs up. "Being able to borrow a laptop, whether for just a few hours or a few weeks, is incredibly helpful for me as a student," said senior Katie Barr. "Often I do not have another option." Graduate student Deanna Kocher '17G appreciates the convenience of being able to take a loaner laptop off-campus for extended periods, noting "I used the laptop for a few weeks in the fall in order to work with preschoolers for one of our child development labs."
Laptops are standard Dell Latitude E5550 series, 15.6” Notebook, Windows OS, 500 GB drive, 8 GB RAM · 2.3 GHz CPU and include carrying case. Long-term rental laptops incur a charge of $5/day or $25/week. Rentals must be picked up at EWFM Library during business hours (8am - 5pm) and returned by 10am on the date due.
