Nineteenth Century Suspension Bridges of John A. Roebling:
The relevance of archival research to modern engineering practice
Friends of the Libraries speaker series,
Tuesday, March 7, 4:10 pm, Scheler Humanities Forum, Linderman Library
Presented by Stephen Buonopane,
Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bucknell University.
Prof. Buonopane has been conducting research in engineering history for over 25 years, with a specialty in 19th century bridge design. He approaches historic structures as archeological artifacts, examining them from multiple perspectives to learn about the culture of their design.
The Libraries recently completed a CLIR "Hidden Collections" grant, "Bridge and Building Forensics: Civil Engineering Collections at Lehigh University." The grant funded the processing and cataloging of our sizable collection of civil engineering papers from, among others, John Fisher and Lynn Beedle (Council on Tall Buildings).
