Some Public Site/Instructor Station PCs slow to start

On October 24, Library and Technology Services (LTS) began receiving reports of significantly slower-than-normal startup times on some public site computers, including classroom PCs. Members of the LTS Systems Engineering Team (SET) traced the problem to an automatic installation of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709, which was released by Microsoft on October 17.

We are working diligently with Microsoft to resolve the issue and to put processes in place to keep such difficulties from recurring in the future. Note that if a PC is in the process of installing the Windows update, it may take up to 20 minutes to complete after logging in. Subsequent logins should take the normal amount of time.

We will send an email update to faculty and staff as soon as we have a resolution.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Library and Technology Services Help Desk at 610-758-HELP (610-758-4357).
